Are fishbone antennas really made of fish bones?

Antenna Question.

I am thinking of buying a fishbone antenna, but fishbone is not even conductive!, How will it work as an antenna? I mainly want to receive TV broadcast from the local station. I live in the desert and I need some entertainment. My friend was nice enough to post this message on my behalf. I texted him through my Nokia 3310, and asked him to post this on his android device.
