Some kind of foam or sponge surrounding my smartphone speaker what is it?

I have a Microsoft lumia 532 smartphone and i accidentally rubbed off some of the foamy sponge thing beside the speaker it was so fragile. I was hoping that is is not really important. If it is, can i repair it or something?
