If I block someone will they know?

I have an iPhone 5s and the person I want to block has a Nokia something that I don't know the official name of. Anyways he really annoying and I was to punch him. He won't stop texting me and I hate it. Someone please help. If he can't tell I'll do it immediately. Please Help ME.
