Are my headphones broken?

My Nokia Coloud Boom headphones were working perfectly fine yesterday. However, when I listening to music on my laptop, all I could hear was an echo sound which was distorted. I tried using them on my phone, but all I could hear was the same echo/distortion sound when I was listening to music on there. And sometimes, my Nokia Lumia 635 phone wouldn't even recognise the headphones.
