Nokia Lumia 735 won t let me select photos?

I used to be able to go onto an app and select pictures to upload to websites or edit, but not anymore. Whenever I go onto, for example, instagram and decide to upload a picture, when I click upload and image, instead of letting me select an image, the screen just goes blank, and returns to the previous page. If i try again, it goes back to the start screen. I have tried restarting the phone, doesn t work. The only way I can select an image is if I go into my camera roll, select a picture and select share. Any ideas why this happens, or how to fix it?
