Should I Jailbreak my IPhone?

Hey guys,
So I have had an IPhone 4s for about a month now, after upgrading from a Nokia and an old faulty IPod.
I have heard great things about jailbreaking your IPhone, and that there are a lot of cool stuff you can do with it.
However, when I had my IPod, I decided to jailbreak it, and it ended up being incredibly slow, but it was slow anyway and faulty so I do not know if the jailbreaking did anything to it or not.
Should I jailbreak my IPhone or just leave it be? Can it cause any lasting damage?
